Cookie policy

Last updated 21 September 2026

A cookie is a small file a website asks your browser to keep. This page lists every cookie this site sets, what each one is for, and how long it lasts.

We set nothing until you accept. When you first arrive you are asked once whether we may count your visit. Until you accept, no cookie is set and no outside service is called: the Google Analytics code is not loaded, not deferred, not sitting idle in the page. It is simply not there. If you reject, it stays that way, and the site works exactly the same.

The cookies we set if you accept

These are set by Google Analytics, which we use to count visits and see which pages practices find useful. They are first-party cookies, set on this domain.

CookieWhat it doesHow long it lasts
_gaTells one visitor's browser from another, so a return visit is not counted as a new one.2 years
_ga_<id>Keeps the state of your current visit, so pages viewed in one sitting count as one visit.2 years

Cookies we do not set

No advertising cookies. We run no advertising on this site and set no advertising or remarketing cookies. Google's advertising features are switched off in our settings, and the code we load asks for analytics only.

No third-party trackers beyond Google Analytics itself. Fonts, images and every other asset load from our own domain.

What we remember about your choice

Your answer is not kept in a cookie. We store it in your browser's own local storage, under pg-consent, with the date and which version of this policy you were shown. It never leaves your device and we never see it. If you clear your site data, we will ask again. If this policy changes materially, we will ask again too.

Changing your mind

You can change your answer at any time, and it is no harder than giving it was.

That clears your stored answer and asks again. You can also clear cookies and site data for this site in your browser's settings, or block cookies altogether — every major browser lets you do both, under privacy or site settings.

What Google receives

If you accept, Google Analytics sends Google information about your visit: the pages you look at, roughly where you are, and your browser and device. Google acts as our processor for this, and may process it outside the UK, including in the United States, with the safeguards UK data protection law requires. Our privacy policy says more about who we share data with, and about your rights over it.

Stripe

When you go to Stripe's payment page to subscribe, or to Stripe's billing page to manage a subscription, you are on Stripe's site, and Stripe's own cookie policy applies there.

Analytics cookies

We would like to count visits, so we can see which pages practices find useful. That uses Google Analytics, which sets cookies on your device. Reject and nothing is set. The site works the same either way. What we would store.
